Coding Nightmare was a video game developed for a software company in July 2015 with the purpose of being used in job fairs or similar events, as an attraction in its exhibition stand and the game would be played in a mobile device.

Home screen

The game was developed using Unity and the platform targets were Android and iOS devices. The main character is the company’s mascot, who is a programmer that has one night to finish his job, and is forced to fight against the struggle of his tiredness.

The writing of the code is simulated every time the character moves to the left or to the right, thus his code, that is displayed to the right, will progress. The objective is to avoid the objects that make him sleepy like the sheep and the pillow. His level of sleepiness is depicted to the left with a “sleep bar”, once the bar is full, the characters fell asleep and the game is over. At the same time the character can recovery from his sleepiness and increment his stamina with other items like the soda can, an slice of pizza or a hamburger.

Every time a code page is completed the game speed increases and makes the character’s mission more difficult. When the game is over you can type your name in a high score board if you are amongst the 10 best scores. Since it’s a game that was planned to be expose in exhibition stands, the objective of the game is not to make the players get the best score, but just attract people’s attention and invite them to play, that’s why the game becomes very difficult so fast, in case the software company would decided to publish the game in one online store, the difficulty would was more progressive, and it would had additional features like other scenarios, new items or levels.
